DFA monitoring Guatemala volcano eruption for affected Pinoys

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is monitoring the situation in Guatemala following the eruption of Volcan de Fuego to determine if any Filipinos were affected.
In a statement, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Mexico is in touch with leaders of the Filipino community in Guatemala to determine if any Filipinos there need assistance.
The DFA said there are more than 200 Filipinos living and working in Guatemala.
The eruption of Volcan de Fuego — reportedly its biggest in four decades — has already resulted in the deaths of 99 people, reports said.
"The government and people of Guatemala are in our thoughts and prayers," Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said. "We hope that there would be no further loss of life and property in this unforeseen tragedy."
As this developed, the Philippine Consulate in Guatemala has urged the Filipino community there to donate to those affected by the eruption.
"The Consulate of Philippines in Guatemala is in solidarity with the people of Guatemala and especially with all those affected by the eruption of Volcan de Fuego," it said.
