OFWs in Hong Kong excited to meet Duterte, says Consul General

Filipinos in Hong Kong are excited to see President Rodrigo Duterte who was scheduled to arrive ther elate Thursday night after attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Consul General of the Philippines in Hong Kong Bernardita Catalla said Filipinos working and living in Hong Kong have long been looking forward to Duterte’s trip.
“Well, a lot of people, a lot of our OFWs are excited. In fact, they have been clamoring for him to visit,” a press release from the Presidential Communications Operations Office quoted her as saying.
Hong Kong is home to 210,000 Filipinos, 194,000 of them overseas workers, most of them domestic laborers.
According to Catalla, Duterte won in Hong Kong during the May 2016 elections. He received 66 percent of the 46,000 total votes cast there.
Duterte is scheduled to meet the Filipino community in Hong Kong on Saturday night.
Catalla already made the OFWs aware that not all of them would be able to enter the venue of Duterte's meeting with the Filipino community.
“So those who cannot be accommodated, pasensiya na po because as I said, security is of utmost importance and we are not able to provide a big venue,” she said.
