Pinoy couple in Saudi commended for honesty in returning lost wallet

A Filipino couple was feted for starting a "chain of honesty" to return a lost wallet to a Saudi national in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, earlier this month, a Saudi news site reported Sunday.

Naeema Cindy Bucay, a staff nurse in Riyadh, told Arab News she chanced on the wallet at 10 p.m. Friday, July 3, while crossing the road outside a mall.

"While walking, I spotted a wallet on the street and picked it up,” she said, adding she initially found no contact details for the wallet's owner. She said she sought Arab News for assistance.

The wallet had a credit card that indicated the owner's contact information at the bank. It also contained an ID card, driving license, and cash.

Arab News said its staff contacted a branch manager of the bank at Hayat Mall. The manager, Mohammed Al-Falaj, eventually contacted and informed wallet owner Abdul Mohsen Al-Manei about the missing wallet.

The Saudi national had been unreachable at first, as he was spending the last 10 days of Ramadan in a mosque.

The missing wallet has been returned to him via his brother.

"While we are now in the last 10 days of this blessed month of Ramadan, this is such a commendable gesture by sister Naeema. She really deserves our highest appreciation and thanks," Al-Falaj said as he lauded the Filipino couple.

Abdul Mohsen's brother Abdullah also lauded the Filipino couple for their honesty.

“I really didn’t expect that my brother’s wallet would be returned," he said. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
