Pinay maid beaten to death by Sri Lankan co-worker in UAE –report

A Filipina maid was beaten up and killed by her Sri Lankan colleague in their employer’s house in Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, a UAE news site reported early Monday.

The Filipina, 33, succumbed to injuries allegedly inflicted by the Sri Lankan, 36, Gulf News reported.

Police said the Sri Lankan maid was arrested and confessed that she beat the Filipina severely after a heated argument.

Fujairah police started an investigation into the Filipina's death after learning she was brought dead to a hospital, and after doctors said the death may have been due to beatings.

Gulf News quoted Fujairah Police acting public relations unit director Lt. Col. Dr Saeed Al Hassani as saying they received information that Fujairah Hospital received the body of a Filipina, and the hospital suspected foul play.

He said an initial examination found several injuries and bruises on different parts of the Filipina's body.

Doctors also found the victim had suffered severe weight loss after staying in the house of her sponsor.

Meanwhile, the Emirati sponsor has been summoned by police for questioning, while the case has been referred to the public prosecution.

Police also said the Filipina's remains were brought to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

GMA News was still trying to contact the Philippine Embassy in the UAE for confirmation as of posting time. Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
