UAE court sentences Pinoy to 6 months in jail for filming roommates with hidden camera

A United Arab Emirates court has sentenced a Filipino designer to six months in jail for secretly taking videos of his female roommates with a hidden camera installed in a bathroom, a UAE news site reported Thursday.

The Court of First Instance found the Filipino guilty of charges of molestation and breaching women’s modesty and ordered him deported after he serves his jail term, Khaleej Times reported.

However, the verdict may be appealed within 15 days.

The Filipino admitted to installing a hidden camera shaped like a clothes hanger on the bathroom door as early as Sept. 28 last year.

He had been caught by two roommates last Nov. 7 supposedly while attempting to film them in their flat in Jebel Ali.

At the time, the Filipino claimed he could not take photos because the camera was broken. He was arrested the next day.

Later, the Filipino admitted to the police he hid the camera in the bedroom while his roommate was taking a shower. He also admitted he filmed her as she dressed.

One of the Filipina roommates, 34, said she and her roommate found the camera on their bathroom’s door. She said they removed it but could not find any memory card in it, then took it to police.

She then confronted the Filipino with the camera.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
