Bahrain court upholds 6-month jail term for Pinay maid for theft

A Bahrain court upheld a six-month jail term for a Filipina maid convicted for stealing BD2,000 (P239,290) worth of jewelry from her employer's home, a Bahrain news site reported Tuesday.

The High Criminal Appeals Court junked the Filipina's appeal and upheld the original sentence, Gulf Daily News reported.

It also ordered the 38-year-old maid deported once she serves her sentence.

An earlier investigation showed the Filipina was caught in Hamad Town with four gold chains, four mobile phones, six dresses and a handbag belonging to her sponsor’s wife and neighbors.

A 16-year-old son of the employer's neighbor allegedly overheard the maid planning the theft. The Bahraini homeowner found the stolen items under the maid's bed and reported her to the police.

But the maid claimed she merely borrowed the jewelry and intended to return them. The Lower Criminal Court sentenced her to six months in jail.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
