2 Miss USA finalists shine in Pinoy-made designs

Two finalists in the Miss USA 2015 beauty pageant wore edgy but classy designs made by two established Filipino-America fashion designers last July 13.

Former reality show contestant Joey Galon took three days to create a stunning floor-length gown for Miss Nevada Brittany McGowan, a feat he counts as a lifelong goal in an Instagram post.

The gown was encrusted with 2,000 silver and platinum hand-applied Swarovski crystals with a platinum silver dupioni silk edwardian train that flowed around the hips of Miss Nevada, one of the top five finalists for this year's pageant.

Fellow finalist Miss Maryland Mame Adjei also donned a Filipino-designed gown, this time by red carpet favorite Rocky Gathercole.

Unlike McGowan, Adjei's gown was an all-black, sheer floor-length gown that tastefully accentuated her body with black crystals and a collar that enveloped her neck and flared out to resemble Gathercole's signature look.

The gown bore the same sheer look of a piece Gathercole designed for socialite Paris Hilton at the fourth pre-Grammy celebration by the Senate Music Group in 2014.

Galon is an avid pageant fan who first rose to prominence in the TV reality design show "24-hour Catwalk" in 2011. The designer, whose parents hail from the Visayas, also developed the pageant service Runway 4 Life and launched his atelier at the Miss USA pageant in 2010.

Gathercole began his career in Pasay City and developed his career with Calash Haut Couture in Dubai before establishing ateliers in the Philippines, USA, and Malaysia. —KBK, GMA News
