Loboc Children's Choir wows Australians in fundraising concert

A recent performance by the Loboc Children's Choir in Australia has earned them a thunderous applause from the audience at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), a report on "Balitanghali" said Thursday.

"Absolutely brilliant. That was superb; after all the sadness in the world that's been in the world... it's a revelation to see young people like that," one attendee to the "Bohol Rising: Memoirs of a People's Faith and Resilience" fundraising event said in the report.

RMIT media students held the fundraiser last June 27 to help Boholanos restore the historical sites destroyed by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 2013 through "the joy of music and dance."

"The Loboc Children’s Choir, from one of the worst affected areas, toured much of the country in the aftermath of the disaster, raising funds for the relief effort. The Kasing Sining performed dramatic commemorations of the earthquake, inspiring communities to rebuild better than ever before," they said.

"But the challenge of fully restoring the churches remains unimaginable, well beyond the financial means and resources of Boholanos. For this reason, the Loboc Children’s Choir and Kasing Sining are rising even higher and going even further to meet this challenge," they added.

The choir, made of primary school student volunteers aged nine to 13, first met with the students in February when the group flew to Bohol to coordinate with locals in preparing photo exhibits and websites for the event.

Days before the concert, New Zealand Dean of the Diplomatic Corps O’Love Jacobsen thanked the Loboc Children's Choir for their display of "true Philippine 'Mabuhay' spirit" during their tour of the Oceanic country.

"The community choir warmed our hearts as we entered but the evening with woos wows and standing ovations to the performance of the Loboc Children's Choir. Just simply the best," Jacobsen said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
