2 OFWs die in separate road accidents in Oman

MANILA - The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Oman (POLO) has requested authorities for a speedy investigation into the separate road accidents that claimed the lives of two overseas Filipino workers in January.

"We have already requested for a speedy investigation of these road mishaps and have informed the victims' families through their recruitment agencies," said Labor Attache Nasser Mustafa.
Mustafa was referring to the cases of Geraldine Decena Apuntar and Uriel Mortel Bocita.
Apuntar was deployed as a household service worker by ATC Human Resource Inc. She was hit by a car when she was crossing the highway in the area of Ruwi, Muscat on January 22. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries

The accident was reported to the employer and the foreign recruitment agency for Apuntar's benefits and other entitlements through the POLO, which also facilitated the shipment of her remains.

With the arrangement made between the foreign agency and the insurance company, Apuntar's family shall receive the amount of OMR 5,000 as death benefits from Dhofar Insurance Company.

Meanwhile, POLO said Bocita worked as a nurse with the Al Massarah Hospital, Ministry of Health. He died when the ambulance he was on crashed into a parked truck.

The OFW, an Omani medical worker, driver and patient, also died in the crash.
"I have also coordinated with the Royal Omani Police Hospital where Bocita’s remains lies pending its repatriation to the Philippines," Mustafa said.
