UAE police tracking down Pinay for abandoning child – report

A woman is now being tracked down in the United Arab Emirates for allegedly abandoning her 15-month-old baby girl, a UAE news site reported Monday.

Sharjah police said a Filipina contacted the child abuse help line last week and told authorities about the child, Khaleej Times reported.

The Filipina said her relative left the baby girl behind at her house.

She said the mother then disappeared. The Children Protection Department received the baby girl and filed a complaint with the police, which then started the search.

“We rushed to the place and received the child. We then informed the police so that the necessary procedures could be followed to find the parents,” said Mohammed Mubarak, director of the helpline.

Police initially detained two women, including the woman who left the child at her relative’s house, but later learned neither was the mother.

Baby doing well

Police first detained the woman who reported the child’s abandonment and then traced and detained the woman who left the baby girl.

But forensic investigations showed the woman who left the baby girl was not the mother. The woman then told police the baby was born out of wedlock.

Meanwhile, the baby girl is in good health and is getting health and social care services in the Child Rights and Protection Center.

She will remain there until her parents are found.  Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
