OFW dies on way to PHL from Saudi Arabia

An Overseas Filipino Worker from Saudi Arabia died while on the way to Manila, a Philippine welfare official said last Monday.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Welfare Officer Amelito Adel of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said the OFW, who he did not immediately identify, died inside the airport clinic in Bahrain last February 24, the day the victim was supposed to fly to the Philippines.

Adel said the report on the incident was relayed to him by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Bahrain.

Also, he said OWWA is taking effort to contact the immediate relatives of the OFW, who was only identified as 37 years old and a passenger of a Gulf Air Flight from Jeddah.

Upon arrival in Bahrain, the OFW reportedly asked for help, and was rushed to the airport clinic. But the victim died there, Adel said.

“Hindi na nakauwi ng Pilipinas si kabayan dahil sa airport palang sa Bahrain ay binawian na siya ng buhay,” he added.

Philippine Officials in Suadi Arabia are investigating the cause of the OFW's death, but believed the victim might have died due to stroke or heart attack, he said.

Philippine welfare officials in Saudi Arabia are trying to get in touch with the employer of the victim in Jeddah, he added.  — Ronaldo Concha/LBG, GMA News
