25-year-old comatose Pinoy in Taiwan finally going home

With the help of donors, a Filipino factory worker who has been in a coma in Taiwan can now finally go home after nearly four months of confinement at a nursing home there.

Rosauro Jamee Reynaldo Lutaw, 25, will be flown home on March 15 with his mother, who went to Taiwan last December to take care of him, Focus Taiwan reported Tuesday.

Lutaw was hospitalized in November last year after he fell into a coma as a result of congenital heart defects that he was not aware of.

The reports said doctors performed surgery to save his life, but he went into a coma. His mother has been taking care of him at a nursing home.

The report said the Chiayi County Social Affairs Bureau was able to secure from the Ministry of Labor Affairs an urgent financial aid amounting to NT$100,000 (US$2,917).

The bureau also managed to raise another NT$180,000 from local charities, including the Chiayi Do Good group, the report added.

All of the donations will be used for Lutaw's airfare and medical bills, which were not covered by his insurance policy due to the nature of his illness, the report said.

Lutaw, who had no previous illnesses, arrived at Minhsiung, Chiayi County in September 2012. —Rie Takumi and Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
