DFA: 112 Pinoys repatriated from Libya, 41 more to follow
Over a hundred Filipinos were repatriated from strife-torn Libya in batches from February 27 to March 4, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
In a news release Thursday, the DFA said 77 Filipinos were brought in batches from Libya to the Tunisian border to take commercial flights back Manila, arriving separately on February 27 and March 1.
Meanwhile, 24 nurses and five dependents from Sirte and another six from Tripoli, the largest city in Libya were escorted to the Tunis Carthage International Airport on March 4.
Another 41 Filipinos are scheduled for repatriation from Benghazi, the second-largest city in Libya, on March 7. The group will depart on March 9 after staying at Al Bayda.
More OFWs will be repatriated from central and western Libya on March 21, the DFA said.
According to the DFA, there are approximately 4,000 Filipinos who are still in Libya despite the country being under Alert Level 4 (mandatory repatriation) due to the deteriorating security situation there.
