Pinoy robbed, roughed up in Riyadh –report

A Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia was robbed and roughed up by at least five men in a Riyadh neighborhood last week, a Saudi news site reported Tuesday.

Bhoy Macion, a native of Southern Leyte who works for a furniture company, said he was hit in the face with a piece of iron during the mugging, Arab News reported.

He said the men rode a red Honda car and forced him off the road Thursday night in the Al-Wazarat area, then demanded his car key, wallet and mobile phone.

When he resisted, one of the men hit him with a piece of iron in the face. Doctors had to stitch the wound up.

Assault

"They were driving in a red Honda car and cut me off. When I wound down the driver’s seat window, one of them asked me if I had car insurance," he said.

He said three of the men then got out of their car, and one held his neck while another tried to get the car key.

The third man opened the back door of his car while the two others opened the doors on the other side of his car.

The men took his wallet with his driver’s license, SR675 in cash and ID cards.

“I took the car key and got out of the car. Three of them went back to their car, while the other two confronted me. At this point, I was forced to use my martial arts skills. They eventually joined their three companions and sped off,” he said.

Macion had organized the martial arts group Black Python. The group is involved in Philippine Embassy programs.

He said he chased the men but could not catch up, and decided to report the incident to the police and then to a nearby clinic to have his face wound stitched.

Macion said police told him the red Honda used by the men belonged to an Indian man who had fallen victim to a carjacking earlier.

He also recalled the police saying there had been several muggings in the area recently.

Macion was not the first Filipino to be mugged in the area recently, the Arab News report said.

Some months back, Filipino Jun Perez, 53, told Arab News he was mugged by four men, who took his wallet, cash, ID cards and cellphone.

Meanwhile, Arab News also cited the case of Lebanese Salman Ali Jammoul, who was mugged while walking in the Hay Dhubat area.

Four men in a white car mugged him and took his wallet with SR5,400 and cell phone. Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
