Pinoy jailed in Malaysia for 18 months over fake ID
A Filipino was sentenced to 18 month in jail after he was found holding a Malaysian identity card (MyKad) by authorities in Semporna on July 1, The Borneo Post reported Friday.
Mohd Kahis Abdul Raman pleaded guilty for violating Rule 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations (NRD), which has a maximum jail time of three years and a fine of up to RM20,000 (roughly P237,743) upon conviction.
Raman was arrested by Inspector Lim Swee Beng in front of a shopping complex in Semporna after the officer suspected the accused of possessing a fake MyKad on May 6.
After checking his card, Beng found out that the MyKad was not registered with the system. A further investigation with the NRD proved that the card was unregistered and fake.
