Baldoz urges all kasambahay to avail of Domestic Work NC II certification

“Get yourself certified.”

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday urged kasambahay to avail of the Household Services Training and Certification under the revised Training Regulations on Domestic Work (NC II), so they could vie for more opportunities and enjoy career growth.

“The Household Service Training and Certification under the revised Training Regulations on Domestic Work represents specific qualification for domestic workers.   A Domestic Work NC II assures an employer of competent and quality domestic services and, at the same time, guarantees Filipino kasambahay, or household service workers of protection, competitiveness, employability, and better compensation,” said Baldoz.

She added that Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has revised the Training Regulation on Domestic Work on 1 October 2014 to facilitate access of kasambahay to efficient training, assessment, and certification.

The TESDA Training Regulations define the competency standards for a national qualification and how such qualification can be gained, assessed, and be given recognition.

TESDA, through authorized training centers, offers Household Services Training and Certification, at a cost ranging from P2, 000 to P5, 000. A National Certificate II-level certification, valid for five years, will be given to students who were able to complete the course.

The Household Services NC II qualification consists of competencies that a kasambahay must attain. These are  basic competencies including participation in workplace communication, work in team environment, career professionalism, and occupational health and safety procedures; common competencies, including maintaining an effective relationship with clients and managing own performance; and core competencies, including cleaning the house, washing and ironing clothes and linen,  preparing hot and cold meals/food; and providing food and beverage services.

The revised Training Regulations on Domestic Work also included elective competencies for additional skills of kasambahay.

The elective competencies include providing care and support to infants, toddlers, children, and elderly; providing care and support to people with special needs; assisting in the care of animals; providing animal care hygiene routines; trimming and pruning landscape plants;  weeding and cultivation; watering/irrigating plants; and controlling and preventing  plant pest and diseases

Baldoz added that kasambahay who are Domestic Work NCII certified can also apply as kitchen helper and hotel cleaners.
