Pinoys join solidarity run for undocumented migrants in Switzerland

Members of the Filipino community in Berne joined the solidarity run for undocumented migrants in Switzerland over the weekend.

The event was organized by the Berner Beratungsstelle für Sans-Papiers, a non-profit organization giving advice and assistance to undocumented persons in the country.

According to the group, there may be 300,000 illegal migrants living in Switzerland to date who are "denied their basic rights and live in constant fear, or work in unstable and dangerous conditions."

The Berner Beratungsstelle für Sans-Papiers, founded in 2002, coordinates with parliamentarians, local and national NGOs, churches, and the public to create reforms in the Switzerland to better protect migrants.

It also provides undocumented migrants health insurance and vocational training.

According to the government's stock estimate, there were 20,072 Filipinos in Switzerland as of December 2012. Of the number, 2,085 were "irregular." Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
