Two Pinoy MERS victims in Saudi no longer in critical condition – DFA

The two Filipino nurses infected with the deadly Middle East Coronavirus are no longer in critical condition, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.

"Both of them are out of the ICU," Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose told a press briefing.

The first case, a 29-year-old female nurse, is currently recuperating at the hospital's private ward unit.
"She's now able to speak and has ready stopped the chemodialysis," Jose said.

The second case, a 32-year-old female nurse, was discharged from the hospital and is presently staying at her own accommodation.

Jose said she has indicated to the embassy that she has decided to resign from her work and will return to the Philippines.

Both nurses acquired the virus in the course of their work.

At least 10 Filipinos, mostly healthcare workers, have died from MERS in the Middle East since its outbreak in the region in 2013.  Michaela del Callar/RSJ, GMA News
