2 Pinays killed in Wisconsin hit-and-run incident
Two Filipino women were killed while six others were injured after their van was hit by a car driven by an allegedly drunk driver in Wisconsin.
A report on Star Tribune said Larci Ricafrente and Djamella Sugatan, both 28 years old, were killed after the car driven by one Michael D. Sonnentag crashed into their SUV on Interstate 94 in west-central Wisconsin.
A separate report on The Chippewa Herald identified the other victims as Alvin D. Dimaranan, Leah Lim Ricafrente, Luisito L. Ricafrente, Lison R. Dimaranan, Athan V. Dimaranan, and Jovita dela Alegre.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Sonnentag's 1995 Black Toyota Camry crashed into the victims' 2006 Honda SUV some time before 2:40 a.m. Saturday (US time). Larci and Djarmella, who were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident, died on the spot.
Meanwhile, the other six victims were found to have non-life threatening injuries.
Sonnentag, 21, was found walking near a highway at 6:45 a.m. after abandoning his car on another highway at 4 a.m.
CBS Minnesota reported that he was eventually arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He will be charged with two counts of homicide.
The Star Tribune report said Sonnentag’s criminal history in Wisconsin includes a charge in August of driving with a suspended license. He had been convicted for driving with open alcohol in a vehicle and underage drinking. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
