POEA cancels recruiter’s license over misrepresentation

The government has cancelled the license of a recruitment agency over alleged misrepresentation after one of its deployed household service worker suffered maltreatment at the hands of her employers.

Non-Stop Employment Corporation allegedly committed its third offense of misrepresentation after the employer of the helper paid her $112 instead of the $4,000 monthly salary stated in her contract, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

She was then transferred by the agency's counterpart in Kuwait to another household after the employer specified in the contract rejected her after a month.

Her second employer, however, deprived her of sleep and food, the POEA said.

The POEA also ordered that Suad Dahham Hassan Thamer Est. for Recruitment of Domestic Staff, the Kuwaiti counterpart, be included on the list of foreign principals and employers disqualified from participating in the overseas employment program.

Hans Leo Cacdac, POEA administrator, also ordered the inclusion of  the Filipino worker's employers on the list of disqualified employers until they submit to the agency's jurisdiction.

The case was part of a report of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), which was endorsed by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, regarding the trafficking of Filipinos to Kuwait. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
