Pinay nurse foils drug smuggling attempt in Saudi hospital

A Filipina nurse working in a hospital in Saudi Arabia has foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs to a prisoner brought there, a Saudi news site reported Wednesday.

The nurse at Hafr Al-Batin central hospital became suspicious of the movements of two men who tried to smuggle 984 Captagon pills, Arab News reported.

Citing its sources, Arab News said the prisoner asked to be admitted to the hospital due to supposed pain.

While the prisoner was confined at the hospital's emergency ward, two unidentified persons tried to smuggle the pills to the prisoner.

But the nurse became suspicious of the two men's movements, including placing a bag under a bed some distance from the prisoner’s bed.

She then saw the prisoner trying to change his bed several times to get to the bag.

This prompted the nurse to call hospital administration. The prisoner's guards then found the bag contained 984 Captagon pills, which are banned in the Kingdom.

Arab News quoted a spokesman for General Prison Directorate Captain Abdullah Al-Harbi as saying that security members accompanying the prisoner found a bag full of pills that was placed under a bed by two unknown persons.

The report said the anti-drug directorate has identified the two people through the hospital’s security cameras. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
