Official encourages young Tsinoys to study, work in Taiwan

A Taiwan official last weekend encouraged young Chinese Filipinos to study and work in Taiwan via a new program recruiting non-Taiwanese graduates to Taiwan's workforce.

Overseas Community Affairs Council Minister Steven Chen cited an “action plan” announced in July, where foreign students can get an employment permit from Taiwan's labor ministry.

Chen, who spoke in Manila, had pitched the program as a “win-win-win” policy, according to a report on Taipei Times.

Under the action plan, graduates of Taiwanese higher learning institutions will be issued employment permits if they pass an evaluation that covers eight factors, including language ability and educational background.

Taiwan expects the plan to draw 2,000 in its first year.

“Advanced studies in Taiwanese colleges and universities would be a wise choice for your students,” Lin also told Philippine Chinese schools’ leaders. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
