"Taos puso po akong ngpapasalamat sa OWWA dahil malaking tulong ang naibigay ninyong financial support sa aking anak .Matagumpay po syang nkatapos sa kurso nya at nakapasa din po at sa kasalukuyan may trabaho na rin. Napakaganda po ng programa ninyo, sana po madami pa po kayong matulungan na mga anak ng OFW. Maraming salamat pong muli.”- These were the words of appreciation posted at OWWA La Union’s Facebook Account from Ms. Marilyn Lopez, an OFW and the mother of Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) Scholar, Marjorie R. Lopez.

Marjorie is the eldest of the five (5) children of Mr. Ernesto Sevilla Lopez and Mrs. Marilyn Reyes Lopez who are both OFWs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. OFW Ernesto Lopez started to work overseas in the year 2006 as an upholstery worker in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. OFW Marilyn Lopez, on the other hand, left the country last 2011 to work as a cook in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Marjorie applied for SESP at OWWA Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA RWO1) and was given the Notice of Award on May 12, 2010. Through the said scholarship she was able to enroll 2-year Midwifery at Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. But she later on transferred to University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City where she finished her Diploma in Midwifery last March 2013.

Right after graduation, she reviewed for the Midwife Licensure Examination which she took on November 16 and 17, 2013. The results were officially released on November 22,2013 in which her name was included in the list of 1,336passers entire the Philippines.

She was employed as a Midwife at Well Family and Midwife Clinic in Pasig City last January 2014 where she is still working at present. She is also planning to continue her studies and pursue 4-year Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.

Marjorie and her family are really thankful to the assistance and opportunity given by OWWA through SESP for she was able to acquire skills which enabled her to land a good job.

The Skills-for-Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) is just one of OWWA’s many scholarship programs which gives opportunity to OFWs as well as their dependents to finish a technical-vocational course at any Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - accredited school for eventual employment.
