DOLE: 97 OFWs repatriated from Saudi in 2 days

At least 97 overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia were repatriated in two days in time for Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz's visit there, the Department of Labor and Employment said Wednesday.

In a news release, the DOLE said that of the 97 repatriated by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, 53 were paid P5.34 million in accrued benefits.

Labor Attache Rustico dela Fuente said 34 distressed OFWs, all of them domestic workers, were repatriated Monday, while another 53 workers of Alurage/Alumco, a subcontractor of Saudi Bin Laden Group, were repatriated Tuesday.

The workers in the second group were paid SR530,040 (P5.83 million) in delayed salaries, end-of-service benefits, and accrued salaries.

The DOLE said POLO Riyadh worked with the Philippine Embassy led by Ambassador Ezzedin Tago on the repatriation.

Handling the case of the 53 workers was Welfare Officer Leonardo Rodrigo, who worked with Saudi Bin Ladin representative Ahmad Ali, Alurage/Alumco general manager Awad Othaibi, and the company’s recruitment agency in the Philippines, East West Placement. Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
