UAE prosecutors seek life term for suspect in rape try on Pinay –report

Prosecutors in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday sought to overturn a court's decision clearing a driver of charges that he tried to rape a Filipina waitress last April, a UAE news site reported.

Last September, the Dubai Court of First Instance had cleared the driver of charges that he abducted the waitress and forced her to have sex with him, Gulf News reported.

Citing prosecution sources, Gulf News said a hearing will be scheduled before the appellate court soon.

The prosecutors are particularly seeking to have the Dubai Appeal Court implement a life sentence against the 34-year-old driver.

“Prosecutors will be seeking to overturn the acquittal and have a life sentence implemented against (the driver),” Gulf News quoted its source as saying.

Earlier, the driver was accused of offering to drive the waitress home, then threatening her into having sex with him.

He denied the allegations where he supposedly locked the vehicle doors and changed his route before stopping in a deserted area.

The Filipina, 24, had claimed the driver threatened to kill her if she did not did not undress so he could have sex with her.

She said she misled the driver by claiming that she was thirsty and asked him for water. She then opened the door and fled.

Records said the driver drove off after locking the central lock.

The woman claimed that the alleged incident happened shortly after she left work and was waiting for a taxi in Karama. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
